We live in the type of world where we’re increasingly pressured to look as fabulous as possible at all times. However, we’re going to tell you a secret: you’re already amazing as you are. Sure there are things we would like to change, maybe parts of ourselves we wish were different, and there’s nothing wrong with bettering ourselves and wanting to look and be our best, but the absolute greatest thing you can do is love the skin you’re in. The following are some tips to help you get started on doing just that.
Don’t Compare Yourself to Others
It sounds simple enough, right? Here’s the thing, there’s no single standard or definition of beauty. It’s extremely subjective and that’s perfectly okay, but the important thing is what you think about yourself. Many are so busy comparing themselves to others when that energy would be much more beneficial when refocused inward. Everyone looks different – is different – and that’s the beauty of this world. How boring would it be if we all looked the same?
Don’t Reduce Yourself to Numbers
So many of us are guilty of reducing ourselves to the number on the scale or the number on the tag of our clothing. However, clothing in a size in one brand might be much different in another, and considering everyone is of a different height and body type, one weight on one person doesn’t necessarily look the same on someone else. Even with yourself, your weight at one number might be the same but could look completely different at separate stages depending on your muscle mass. Numbers are just that and are not an indication of who you are as a person. You’re more than a number.
Think of Everything You’ve Accomplished
Accomplishments aren’t just a full bank account, a gorgeous car, a college degree, a fancy title, or something along those lines. Sometimes, a major accomplishment is just getting out of bed in the morning, doing a nice gesture for someone else, volunteering, lifting someone’s spirits, or being there for someone who needs you. Accomplishments aren’t always glitter and gold, sometimes they’re more subtle, but that doesn’t mean they’re any less spectacular.
Treat Your Body Well
You may be surprised just how much better you can feel when you eat the right foods and get your body moving, and it doesn’t have to start out as anything completely drastic. For example, you could start by incorporating more fruits and vegetables in your diet and going for a walk once or twice a week. Additionally, you should take care of your skin, especially by wearing sunscreen on a daily basis, go for check-ups, and brush and floss daily.
Compliment yourself every single day
Whether you say it out loud, write it in a journal, or tell a loved one, it’s important that you compliment yourself more often and cut down on the negative self-talk. It doesn’t matter what you’re wearing, if you feel sick and your nose is running, or if your eyes are puffy because you didn’t sleep well, etc, make it a point to compliment yourself and mean it.
The truth is that many of us could all stand to love ourselves a little more, and that doesn’t make us selfish, it makes us human. Love yourself for everything that you are. You deserve to feel attractive and to love yourself, and most importantly, you’re worthy of it. Don’t let anything or anyone else – or even yourself – make you feel otherwise.
