With summer coming up, many of us are shedding the sweaters and sweatshirts and opting for clothing such as t-shirts, dresses, and tank tops that are lighter and showcase a little more skin. However, there are those who aren’t thrilled with the prospect of doing so because they feel that their skin looks older than their actual age. If you want to get started on anti-aging your skin in time for summer and after, the following are some tips that can help get you started.
There’s no doubt that smoking can wreak havoc on your skin in the form of premature skin aging and a more dull appearance to the skin just to name a couple of effects. We’re not going to tell you it’s going to be easy to quit smoking because it probably won’t be, but it is worth it. Within a couple of months if not sooner depending on several factors (such as your skincare regimen) you could start seeing positive changes in your skin.
Get the Sleep You Need
When we don’t get the right amount of sleep—which, for adults, is between 7 to 9-hours—it shows all over our face. Most obvious is the dark under eye circles, but then there’s also the dull skin tone amongst other issues. In the long term, it could even lead to premature skin aging. If you want to start looking younger, do what you can to get enough sleep each night. It’s not always easy when the weather gets warmer and more events and plans start happening, but getting more sleep can be one of the best things you can do for your skin and body.
Make Sun Protection A Priority
UV rays play a huge part in the look and feel of your skin in the short- and long-term. They can lead to premature skin aging so it’s essential that you make protecting your skin a priority. The first step is to load up on the sunscreen; apply it from head-to-toe before you leave for the day and throughout the day. When you go swimming or you sweat in the summer (or throughout the year), you’re going to want to make sure to reapply the sunscreen after. You should also consider wearing sunglasses, sun protective clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and long sleeve yet breathable tops when you’re spending time outdoors.
If you’re looking to anti-age your skin, it’s not enough to moisturize once in awhile; it’s best to do it regularly. There are a few ways to go about it. For example, after you wash your hands, use hand cream, in the morning and in the evening use face cream, and after you’ve showered and towel dry, apply lotion so you can trap in all that beneficial moisture.
Exfoliate Your Skin
Exfoliating your skin has quite a few benefits, including helping your skin to look younger and more revitalized by removing dead skin cells. Making sure you exfoliate once or twice a week depending on your skin type can make a big difference in the look and feel of your skin.
If you have any questions about how to make your skin look even younger sooner than later, don’t hesitate to contact your dermatologist and esthetician for more information regarding your specific skin.
