We’ve all been told so many times before how important it is to drink enough water throughout the day. Typically we should be drinking around eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day, but considering everyone’s body is different there’s no single amount that is absolutely perfect for everyone. Regardless, many of us aren’t drinking nearly as much water as we should on a daily basis. The more we pay attention to our bodies the better, so check out the following signs that you need more water in your life to determine if you may want to start upping your fluid intake.

Your urination isn’t right
Urine is usually supposed to be a pale yellow color, but if it’s a dark color, that means you’re in need of some more water. Also, the frequency of how many times per day that you urinate can vary depending on other factors in your life (such as what medications you’re taking) but typically you should be urinating about six or seven times per day. If it’s far less, you might want to start drinking more water. Keep in mind that once your water intake increases, the amount of times you urinate throughout the day will likely increase as well.

Your mouth feels dry
So this is one of the most obvious signs, but you want to do what you can to prevent from getting to the point where your mouth feels dry. Not only does this feel uncomfortable, but it could also contribute to bad breath.

You feel tired
Part of the reason you may feel tired is that you’re not drinking enough water. Even mild dehydration could cause you to want to curl up and take a nap. If you feel your energy start to slip or you noticed it hasn’t been very high lately, think about how much water you’ve been drinking and consider upping your amounts.

You’re hungry
Did you know that there are times when the reason you’re feeling hungry is actually because you’re mildly dehydrated? Rather than reach for the snacks, drink a glass of water and see if the hunger subsides.

It’s important to note that, while you don’t want to drink too little water, you also don’t want to drink too much water either. There is actually such a thing as being too hydrated, so make sure you’re not doing more harm than good.

What’s the best way to get more water in your life? Always carry a refillable bottle around with you. You don’t want to count on the fact that you can always get up and get water because if you get busy at your desk and can’t get up at the moment, you’re out for a walk, you’re commuting by bus or train, etc, it may otherwise not be accessible when you need it. It’s much easier to drink more water throughout the day when you already have it within reach via the bottle. You don’t have to gulp the water, but taking sips during the day can be beneficial.
