Show a Little TLC to Your Smile

It’s so important to make sure that we take excellent care of our teeth, but it’s not something that should be done sporadically. Instead, it should involve a committed everyday routine that can help make the smile look its best and be as healthy as possible. A little daily TLC can do your smile some good, so let’s talk about some of the best ways to take care of your mouth that could play a big part in its condition.

See Your Dentist Every Six Months
It can be so easy to push off the 6-month dentist appointment, especially if you don’t feel like there’s anything wrong, but it’s not going to do your mouth any favors. Not only can you get a cleaning while you’re there, but it can be a good way for the dentist to spot any issues that you may not have noticed or felt as of yet. The best way to keep a future appointment is to make it before you actually leave the office from the last one.

Don’t Put Off Problems
Feel like something isn’t right with your teeth? Don’t put off going to the dentist to get it checked out. What starts off as a seemingly little problem can quickly grow to be a big problem which might not just mean more pain and a bigger time commitment, but also a larger bill at the end of your visit. The sooner you go the better.

Brush Properly
When you brush your teeth twice a day, make sure not to rush the process which can be easy to do rather than stick to the two-minute rule. Make it easier by playing your favorite song to listen to while you’re brushing. Get all the surfaces of your teeth as well as your tongue, don’t brush too hard, and replace your toothbrush every few months.

Floss At Least Once A Day
Many skip flossing, but it’s the best way to remove food particles and plaque that are stuck in between your teeth and on the gum line. It’s also useful when you have an unsightly piece of food stuck in your teeth that you want going before anyone notices and to help remove pieces that feel uncomfortable, such as what might happen when you eat popcorn. One of the other great aspects of flossing is that you can do it from the comfort of your couch if you so desire and it’s easy to do.

Skip The Tobacco
Whether you chew tobacco or you smoke, neither is a good idea for your teeth or your mouth in general. It could lead to teeth yellowing, tooth decay, or sensitivity amongst other issues. You could even end up dealing with oral cancer. Did we also mention the bad breath?

If you have any questions or concerns about your smile, including how to make it even better than it already is, don’t hesitate to reach out to your dentist. There’s nothing to feel embarrassed about; they’re there to help you as much as possible.
