The winter can be pretty brutal on the skin resulting in dryness, cracking, and a slew of other issues. Considering the spring and summer are seasons when we can shed the warm heavy layers, many are all about getting their skin in as great of shape as possible, but how exactly do you go about it? Surprisingly, it doesn’t have to be an overly time-consuming or expensive endeavor. Check out the following tips for how you can start getting your skin in tip-top shape in time for summer.
If you’ve been slacking a bit on exfoliating, there’s no better time than now to start it up again. You don’t have to do it every day, once a week is typically enough, and you want to make sure not to scrub too hard or use a product that’s too rough on the skin. Choose a good product and it will work well without you applying too much pressure.
Give Your Feet and Hands Extra TLC
To say that the winter can be rough on the hands and feet is an understatement which is why it’s so important to give them extra TLC as the warmer weather makes its approach. One of the best ways to do that is to do overnight treatments which can take some getting used to but could be quite effective. Apply a healing ointment onto your clean hands and feet, then follow that up by putting on cotton socks and gloves and sleeping with them on overnight.
Change Your Products
It’s usually best to change up your products once the spring and summer come around. For example, instead of using a rich cream moisturizer which can feel overly heavy and greasy during the warm days, use one that’s lightweight instead. There are also some who prefer to use different shades of makeup, such as pastel or neon shades, in the spring and summer, so if you’re one of them, consider switching around your makeup so the shades you’ll want to use in the warm weather are more easily accessible.
Wear Sunscreen If You’re Not Already
Although we’re actually supposed to be wearing sunscreen all year round, it’s even more vital to do so once the warmer weather happens and more skin is exposed to the sun. Make sure you put the sunscreen on at least a half an hour before you leave the house and continue to reapply it throughout the day especially after you go swimming or you sweat.
Come Up with a Body Hair Removal Plan
Some have opted to remove body hair less often during the winter but amp up the effort once spring and summer are upon us. Before the temperatures change, come up with a hair removal plan whether it be shaving, waxing, or something else entirely—or even if you want to just stick with what you’ve been doing if it works well for you—so you’re all set for the warmer weather.
One of the best things you can do when you want to get your skin ready for summer is to plan ahead. You don’t want to wake up one day and realize cold weather clothing won’t do and you haven’t even started giving your skin some warm weather extra care. If you have any questions pertaining to your specific skin, don’t hesitate to reach out to your esthetician or dermatologist.
